"Albert" - a KPM China Boy from artist Carl Armstrong
“Albert” represents a very special opportunity. Resident Grovian Museum doll artisan, Carl Armstrong, has used his unique talents to create a reproduction KPM china, based on an antique original, circa 1840s, that resides in the museum’s collection.
Albert, representing a boy of 14 and nephew to Adelina, is hand-made from organic materials – porcelain, paint, cotton and sawdust – in America. Designed to look like an antique doll, Albert possesses details such as delicate facial painting, a hint of a smile, a handsome brown-painted hairstyle that includes slightly unruly bangs - all on a stuffed cotton body with a lightly antiqued finish, and exquisitely modeled china arms and legs. The dolls are marked “Fancy - 2022” upon the back of their shouderplates.
Each doll is unique, so expect slight variations, whether it be in coloration, painting and overall size.
A joy to costume, Albert will help provide hours of enjoyment for the doll couturier in you, with help from the assorted costume kits that Maison Jeffrey has created. A variety of kits are available for you here, and we encourage you to take a browse.
