Inspired by the walking suits of the 1860’s, which were lavish as well as practical (with a shorter hem allowing for freedom of movement), this two piece ensemble is ideal for a fashionable young Madame on the go, and is well suited to a variety of day looks including, strolls, shopping and visiting. The costume is rendered in gorgeous, champagne hued silk taffeta with lush, blue silk edging creating a striking contrast, and includes a long, double breasted coat with a bustle back, wide collar, turned back cuffs and periwinkle blue cabochon style buttons. A full, ankle length skirt with a lavishly pleated hem and a ruffled embellishment in blue silk completes the elegant look. Accessories include a fetching hat with a turned back brim edged in blue silk and trimmed with a spray of millinery flowers and a soft blue plume. The pattern and materials for a lace embellished purse are also included.
